The Pony Express Story
Greetings, my Adventure Friend, and welcome to my home on the Net for all-things Pony Express. I am Leanne Carson Boyd, owner of WaybillToAdventure.com. I am a writer, publisher, and illustrator, and the Waybill presence has grown to an impressive amount of information. We are the digital presence for H. Glenn Carson Enterprises. Glenn (who is my Dad) has been the icon -- the standard -- in the treasure hunting field for over 35 years.
Our emphasis is on topics such as treasure hunting, cache hunting, coinshooting, and American history expressly for themes such as Westward expansion and even earlier... anything that had to do with GOLD or lost or buried treasure, gold mining, and ghost towns after all those folks left or died.
Many of our books are akin to the General Mercantile of the old West towns... everybody needed supplies and the helpmeet items so they could run their lives and do what they did in their Venture. We supply the books, tips, and techniques to help our modern Adventurer become powerful in their hunt, knowledgeable in their trade.
As children, many of us discovered the wonder of the Westward movement. Gold mines, shootouts, wild adventures, cowboys, Indians, Signs and Symbols, and "The Good and Bad and Ugly" -- in the old corral and everywhere else!
Some of us discovered ... the Pony Express! This has been a life-long love of mine since grade school. Some kids fell in love with the Black Beauty and some with Roy's golden Palomino. Not me. I ran into the Pony Express in Mrs. Muth's 5th grade class in Boulder, Colorado. And it has taken a whole number of years to get to HERE, and writing/compiling a 370 page, illustrated, annotated, referenced book on the topic. I feel like I was run over by the proverbial truck ... or, was it a stagecoach?
With joy and excitement, I offer you this space in electronic space, to ponder and peruse the short but adventure-filled year and one-half of the Pony Express. I invite your comments, and your contributions of any experiences or knowledge of the PoEx -- please, share your comments!

It is much different and more comprehensive than anything out there -- and believe me, this is well-researched and I am painfully aware of how MUCH there is out there. Many have recently re-published this work. Even Amazon has it featured -- at well above $70! But none of these are the detailed version you will find here. With my art background, of course the artworks of the time were of great interest ... N.C. Wyeth, Remington, and others are illustrated herein. I've explored the legends as well as the indisputable facts. I've pored over the maps and, I swear, gone into the gullies and to the mountain tops, at least in the digital world, to make this as complete as it could be.
Why do you NEED my new Pony Express Story book? Hey, I am not going to spend any time trying to convince you that you need this book :-) ... it will come down to you will WANT this book. I base this on the fact that you did not accidentally find my Pony Express Story site. You found it probably in a search engine. You most likely have hunted and pecked all over the Net, and have read what you could find. And you were left with the challenge of piecing it all together, and perhaps even gave up on that method!

Corbett has recently written a book, Orphans Preferred: The Twisted Truth and Lasting Legend of the Pony Express
. It has raised eyebrows and formed instant opinions all over the reading globe, but I find both his book and his personality very candid and refreshing. The book gives a lot of information and ideas that are new to the whole P.E. history, and it's a delight to read.
The interview begins with a beguiling invitation to see how Corbett has tied together the myth with the legend -- which, of course, immediately caught my attention as that has been my goal since deciding to write my own book.

1 "When it absolutely, positively had to get there sometime next week, Americans of the mid-nineteenth century called upon the Pony Express to deliver their most urgent letters and packages. But as a business venture, the Pony Express was no FedEx. It lasted only a year and a half and cost investors a fortune. So how did the famed mail carrier become such a fixture of Western lore? Christopher Corbett, author of Orphans Preferred: The Twisted Truth and Lasting Legend of the Pony Express, sorts out the unlikely merger of myth and memory that made an American legend."Almost 150 years later, this story has become quite beloved in the minds of many.
